What a cookie is, briefly
A cookie is a small piece of text a website asks your browser to keep and send back on later visits. Local storage does a similar job but stays on your device and is never sent to a server automatically. Both are used on this site, for different purposes.
What we store on your device

Neither of these is sent to our servers, neither identifies you, and neither is used for advertising. If you block them, the site still works — you will just get the default theme and lose an unfinished invoice when you close the tab.
Analytics
We use analytics to see which pages are read and which tools get used, in aggregate. This tells us where to spend effort. It does not tell us who you are, and it never captures what you type into a tool.
Advertising cookies
This site is funded by advertising. Third-party ad networks, including Google, may set cookies and read existing ones when an ad is served on a page you visit. These are used to limit how often you see the same ad, to measure whether an ad worked, and — unless you have opted out — to personalise which ads you see based on your browsing across other sites.
We do not set these cookies ourselves and we cannot see their contents. Google’s use of the DoubleClick DART cookie, and how to opt out of it, is described in our privacy policy.
How to control cookies
- In your browser. Every major browser lets you block third-party cookies, delete existing cookies, or refuse all cookies. Look under Settings → Privacy. Blocking third-party cookies is the single most effective step and does not break this site.
- Opt out of personalised advertising. Use Google’s Ads Settings, the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out, or Your Online Choices in Europe. You will still see ads; they will be less targeted.
- Consent notice. Visitors in the UK and EEA are shown a consent notice before non-essential cookies are set, and can change that choice at any time.
Changes
